A powerful politician from the Rift Valley has accused Deputy President William Ruto of causing the apparent simmering cracks in the Jubilee government.
Nick Salat, the KANU Secretary General, blamed Ruto for antagonising his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta and in result causing divisions in the ruling party.
Speaking to Sunday Nation, Salat said the DP's biggest 'mistake' was his focus on the succession politics when he was supposed to support his boss to implement his Big Four agenda.
"The President assured him of his support in 2022 but he immediately embarked on a campaign. It was bound to boomerang on him since the President is keen on leaving a good legacy," he said.
The politician, a close ally of Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who is also said to be eyeing the presidency, reiterated that Ruto should have been patient in his bid to succeed the Jubilee party leader.
"It is rule of the thumb that you do not attempt to outmaneuver your boss. You do not try to make him irrelevant too soon even if in the end you must," the KANU chief said.
While admitting there are camps in Jubilee, Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen absolved Ruto from any blame and pointed an accusing finger at 'powerful people working in the office of the President'.
"Let me be very frank: I believe that the investment those people are putting in to drive a wedge between the President and his deputy is so huge and to a great extent it is creating faults," Murkomen said on Sunday night during an exclusive interview with Citizen TV.
