Photo/Hivisasa.com]The immediate former Correctional Services Principle Secretary Micah Powon has revealed that a decision to allocate part of the Kenya Prisons land in Eldoret town for the construction of a new Referral Hospital was approved by the Cabinet.Powon, now transferred to the ministry of Devolution, appeared before the National Lands Commission (NLC) during a review of the controversial allocation of part of the land to private individuals, and insisted that the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital was regularly awarded the land.He presented the Cabinet memo to the NLC vice chairperson Abigael Mbagaya."The land belongs to Kenya Prisons and this is why the cabinet had to meet and approve that part of it be used in building a new Hospital," Powon told the press in Eldoret, Friday.There has been controversies over the ownership of 600 acre piece of land popularly referred to as 'Block ten' in Eldoret town with Kenya Prisons insisting it belongs to them and that it was irregularly subdivided and sold to private individuals.The government plans to build an ultra modern hospital in part of the land which NLC has also insisted it belongs to the Kenya Prisons.
