Business students in Maseno University were on Thursday urged to foster high standards in procurement once they graduate from campus.
This happened during a Procurement Seminar held in the University’s boardroom in Siriba campus.
Speaking at the event, Mr Oroo Barrack, told the students to ensure that they become people who will add value in any organization where they will serve as procurement officers.
Mr Oroo noted that our country is in economic turmoil due to irresponsible procurement officers in our public and private offices.
He continued to mention that a lot of public funds are being leached by rogue procurement officers who have caused our society to remain in a state of poverty due to their selfish ambitions.
“Do the services diligently and the resources will follow you,” said Mr Oroo.
George Ouma, KPLC’s Kisumu Branch procurement officer also graced the occasion.
He told the students to become procurement officers who will practice Green Procurement.
He said Green Procurement was the ability to acquire or purchase goods that have minimal damage to the environment besides also having the ability to be reused or recycled.
He also emphasised that all procurement done must ensure they protect the environment besides also being of great value to the immediate society.
“If you don’t procure well today, your future children will suffer,” he warned.
The event ended by The Procurement and Supply Students and Alumni Association donating three dustbins to be used as a means of solid waste management.
Dr Benjamin Ombok (R), the left Dr. Oginda initiating a green procurement project. Three dustbins were donated during the Green and Sustainable procurement seminar.
