Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba has asked Mombasa residents to pray for Governor Hassan Joho to overcome the court cases filed against him by the government.Bedzimba said Joho is being fought by the Jubilee government and Mombasa residents should pray for him so that he emerges victorious in all the court battles.Addressing residents at Kadongo grounds in Mishomoroni, Bedzimba said those who think Joho will be barred from defending his seat have misplaced priorities, adding that he will be on the ballot come August 8.“Let me remind those who have been pushing for our governors’ arrest that they are only chasing passing winds, we will support Joho and he will be on the ballot come August 8,” said Bedzimba.Bedzimba said the issues of academic forgery, evading taxes and illegal things that Joho has been accused of are far from the truth, adding that is why the high court has distanced itself from such intrigues. He asked Mombasa residents to remain strong and united, arguing that the Jubilee government wants to rule them forcefully by imposing leaders on them.“Let us all stick with our Joho, support him and ensure that he is on the ballot during the general polls,” said Bedzimba. On Wednesday, Justice Chacha Mwita declined to bar Joho from defending his Mombasa gubernatorial seat and referred the matter to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in a case filed by businessman Abdallah Juma. However, the Director of Public Prosecution Keriako Tobiko has appealed the Mombasa High Court ruling baring various government departments from investigating Joho.Tobiko said that the evidence gathered is enough to file charges against the Mombasa County chief.
