President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on religious leaders and Kenyans to pray for peace in the upcoming August 8th polls.

Speaking during a church service at St Paul’s Catholic Church in Kiambu Town on Sunday, President Kenyatta asked the clergy to play its role towards a peaceful general election.

He said that the country needs to remain peaceful before, during and after the general election.

The President also asked the church to help reconcile and unite Kenyans this electioneering period.

“I want to appeal to religious leaders to pray for peaceful general elections and to also take the initiative in preaching unity as the country heads to the August 8th polls,” he said as quoted by The Standard.

The President further went on to encourage politicians to exercise tolerance and humility as they campaign for votes.

“We (politicians) must stand together and embrace each other’s views despite our different political ideologies,” he added.

The president warned politicians against reckless remarks that could spark animosity and cause bloodshed.

He said that the country has to remain united regardless of whoever wins the August 8th general election.
