Police in Malindi are holding an evangelist suspected of preaching radical Christian and Islamic teachings to school going kids.  Pastor Paul Makenzi, a preacher at the Good News International Ministries was arrested on Saturday following complainants from the residents.

According to The Star, the preacher was holding 53 students at his church before at the time of arrest. Confirming the incident, Malindi OCPD Matawa Muchangi said that the preacher’s message has influenced the thoughts of the children, adding that the teachings are not in line with Christianity.

He also said that the parents had raised concerns of the man’s teachings, which they considered demonic.

"We received complaints from the neighborhood that the pastor's teaching was demonic and should not be encouraged," he said.

The children, aged between10 and 35 years, allegedly escaped from their homes after he (Makenzi) convinced them to follow his preaching.   It has also been revealed that the preacher and his students attempted to preach their radical teachings to the security personnel before they were arrested for questioning.  The residents have hailed to security officers following the arrest.

Members of the Malindi council of pastors have disowned the Makenzie, saying his message does not reflect their beliefs.
