A 23-year-old man in Subukia committed suicide yesterday after being warned by the parents of a form three girl with whom he was in love with to stay away from the girl. However, having learned of the death of the man, the girl also commited suicide moments after.

One neighbour claimed that trouble began between the mother and the girl when she learned of her pregnancy.

"When she learnt she was pregnant, she threatened to throw her out of their home," said the neighbour.

According to area chief Norman Kiiru, the bodaboda operator had once been arrested for being with the girl.

Kiiru said the body of the bodaboda operator was found dangling from a tree on Wednesday night.

It is believed that the threat prompted the death of the man.
