Director meteorological services in Kisii county Mr Henry Sese has advised farmers and residents to take cautions as the country is expected to have La Nina rain more so in the Western region.
According to the director, Kisii County is expected to receive rainfall from the month of September into the first week of October.
“I would like to advise farmers since we are expecting rain to liaise with the Ministry of agriculture to make the best use of rain by planting appropriate crops for this season,” said Sese.
"We also advise farmers to take good care of their harvests because of the famine expected in most counties of our country due to depressed rainfall forecaster due to La Nina conditions," he added.
He also encouraged residents to put in place soil conservation measures in minimising environmental degradation and plant trees in order to increase the forest cover.
The director also challenged the county government to set measures on how it will help residents during this season.
The Director was addressing the Media on Friday at the office of the chief officer of Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries and Cooperative Development when he was giving a report about the Climate Outlook for the October-November- December (OND) 2016.
