Kiambu County residents have been told to prepare and plant their crops at the right time to ensure that they benefit from the occasional rainwater. Juja MP Francis Munyua over the weekend noted that Kiambu residents are glaring at a possibility of a hunger strike because lately farmers have not been making use of the rainwater maximally. “People will go hungry in this area because they have not been utilising rainfall as it’s supposed to be,” the first-time MP said. “I urge you to ensure that the coming rain does not go to waste.” Munyua has also appealed to the government to start providing farmers with planting materials as a way of preparing them for the planting season. “I request the government to start providing the farmers in this area and elsewhere with quality seeds and fertilizers to ensure that they have sufficient harvest for their consumption and sale,” said Munyua. Farmers were also asked to engage in good farming practices by consulting the field agricultural officers at their disposal.
