Taita Taveta governor hopeful Dan Mwanzo has asked the incumbent, Governor John Mruttu to prepare for a resounding defeat.

Mwanzo, who is vying on a Jubilee party ticket, said Mruttu does not deserve a second term in office because he has performed dismally in the last four years.Speaking during a campaign rally in Mwatate on Wednesday, Mwanzo claimed that county residents have not enjoyed the fruits of devolution due to Mruttu’s poor leadership.He accused Mruttu of implementing unnecessary projects while neglecting key sectors that offer daily services to residents.“Governor Mruttu should prepare for his political exit because there is nothing he has done for residents,” said Mwanzo, as quoted by the Standard.The Jubilee candidate said unemployment remains a serious challenge in the county, adding that young people have now become desperate making them easy prey for criminal and terror agents.The ODM rebel senator promised to push for projects that will revive the county’s economic status if elected.He also promised to seek foreign investments and set up industries that will create jobs.The governor hopeful who has declared interest to vie for presidency in 2022, said he is the best candidate to run the county.Others in the race to unseat Mruttu include former central Bank of Kenya (CBK) deputy governor Jacinta Mwatela (ANC), Granton Samboja (Wiper) and Thomas Mwadeghu of ODM.Mruttu is seeking re-election as an independent candidate.
