The county government of Kisii has been told to step up and prepare well for the rains which saw traders in Kisii suffer losses.
This was the message from traders after heavy rains swept their goods.
“The county government has done little to ensure the drainage system of the town is well established. We now want them to step up and work before we face more losses,” said Jimmy Machoka.
Some questioned the counties readiness and commitment to handle such disasters.
“We always have money set aside for disaster preparedness and management. What is the work of the county government if we will be running losses and our lives at risk yet the county government is doing nothing to address the issue,” said Zachariah Nyanibane.
According to Kenya Meteorological Department, the rains are still expected in most parts of the country.
They want the county government to cut off the excess water from draining into the market by constructing channels and water cutouts.
“The issue should be addressed with an agency before it is too late,” said Chris Nyachiro.
