[Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale. He will face stiff competition from Dolal and Maalim in defending his parliamentary seat.] (the-star.co.ke)An aspirant vying for the Garissa Township MP seat as an opposition candidate will win during the August 8 election, an MP aspirant has said.
Garissa Township MP hopeful Nassir Dolal said many voters in the constituency support the opposition, reminding incumbent Aden Duale to prepare to stay outside Parliament.
The race for the constituency MP seat has attracted attention going by the popularity of the aspirants.
Former Parliament Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim (Wiper), Dolal and Duale are all contesting for the seat.
There are rumours Dolal could step down for Maalim since they come from one clan, a move that will give the opposition an upper hand since the move will hand Maalim all opposition votes.
“Our resolve remains that after August 8, we have a new MP for Garissa Township,” Dolal said while campaigning in the constituency.
“It doesn’t matter what formula we shall use.”
Duale won against Dolal in 2013 with a narrow margin. Dolal is ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s close ally.
