[Duale when he addressed residents of Garissa Township recently. He says Garissa locals will have new leaders come August polls.] (File)The opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) is burning midnight oil to ensure Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale does not return to the National Assembly after the August election.
Garissa Township MP contender Nassir Dolal (ODM) says many voters in the constituency support the opposition.
He told Duale to begin preparations to hand over the constituency’s leadership after August.
The race for the Garissa Township MP seat has attracted national attention going by the political weight of the aspirants gunning for the seat.
Former Parliament Deputy Speaker Farah Maalim (Wiper party), Dolal and Duale are all racing to represent the constituency in Parliament.
There has been talk that Dolal could step down for Maalim as they come from one clan.
Dolal’s stepping down for Maalim will clearly give the opposition an upper hand since the decision will give Maalim all opposition votes.
“Our resolve remains that after August 8, we have a new MP for Garissa Township. It doesn’t matter what formula we shall use,” Dolal, a close ally of opposition Chief Raila Odinga said.
Duale beat Dolal in 2013 with a narrow margin.
