However, their anticipation was in vain after state house cancelled the visit in final hours in what the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education [who attended on behalf of the president] termed as “inevitable circumstances”.

President Uhuru was scheduled to preside over the institution’s second graduation ceremony after failing to participate during last year’s inaugural ceremony due to other state commitments and was expected to compensate today.

According to Prof. Sudi, Mr. Kenyatta was to assent the controversial security Bill that was passed on Thursday by the National Assembly before addressing a press conference over the same.

“The head of state was a little bit engaged today but it was his wish to attend. He is currently signing security bill into law hence it was inevitable that he has to miss. He will come at a later date to share with all of you”, she said.

The Bill was fiercely contested between the government and opposition CORD that terms some sections draconian. Civil society also raised some concerns over the same.

She urged graduates to be more innovative and desist from depending on white collar jobs.” With rampant unemployment we have to find ways of coming up with creative ideas that can help the government deal with unemployment”, she said.

John Ondieki who travelled with a delegation of ten people from Ogembo town was disillusioned after learning absence of the president but was optimistic that he will come someday.

“Yes am so dissapointed because we expected him today and that is why we travelled besides graduation. We wanted to assure him of the region’s support and hear his developmental agenda for the region especially the diminishing tea industry but am happy he said he’ll came”, he said.
