President Uhuru Kenyatta has for the first time spoken on the Bill that his Jubilee Party hasWh tabled in parliament and the senate.
Speaking on Friday during a rally in Busia, the president said the Bill was for the good of the country, as it would ensure anyone found culpable of any wroign doing during or after election is punished.
“We are seeking to ensure officials who refuse to sign forms are punished for it. What is wrong with that? We want them to go to jail for five years if they refuse to do their job. Aren't these the things our opponents complained about?”
According to the head of state, the law will address future issues like what was seen in the last polls, which was nullified by the Supreme Court.
The Bill has cause uproar from the NASA side, who have accused their Jubilee members of using their numbers to push for laws that protect their (Jubilee) interests.
Members of the NASA coalition on Thursday walked out of a meeting that was called by IEBC to tackle arising issues before the October 26 polls.
Some of the contents of the Bill include;
Uhuru Kenyatta to be declared winner if Raila makes good his threat to skip the October 26 elections, and making it possible for the vice chairman of the IEBC to act as the chairman in the absence of the substantive chairman, and members of the commission will elect one of them as chairman in the absence of both the chair and the vice chair.
