A row pitying hawkers and the Uasin Gishu County government have been blamed on politicians.
A section of leaders from the region has said that the recent confrontation between hawkers and county askaris was not good for the Jubilee party-led devolved unit.
Gikuyu, Embu and Meru Association (GEMA) Secretary General Paul Kinyanjui said it was time for President Kenyatta to intervene to end the wrangles which may result in chaos if not addressed quickly.
“The standoff between hawkers and county government needs a political solution. Since local politicians have not helped we are calling on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy to intervene and end the wrangles for the hawkers to be allowed to conduct their businesses as by the agreement which will be arrived,” he said.
Kinyanjui warned communities within Eldoret may start fighting if the hawkers' menace is not solved in time.
“We don’t want communities to clash because of the differences between the hawkers and county askaris. Politicians from the county should make plans to invite the President who will help in solving the wrangles,” he added.
He was speaking on Sunday in Eldoret town.
