President Uhuru Kenyatta has challenged the Kisii community to back his re-election bid during the August polls.

Speaking on Tuesday during his two-day tour of the Gusii region, President Kenyatta noted that he had awarded the community state jobs despite the region voting the Opposition overwhelmingly during the 2013 general elections.

"I have appointed many members of the community to big positions in Government yet you overwhelmingly voted for the opposition in 2013," the Standard newspaper quoted the head of state.

"We are determined to form a Government that encompasses every Kenyan. We have called on Kisii leaders to join our party and be part of our next Government," he added.

Among those appointed by the government to state jobs include: Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, Principal Secretary Susan Mochache and former Information PS Bitange Ndemo who was appointed to head the Nairobi Metropolis.

In Nyamira County, President Kenyatta garnered just 54,071 votes while Opposition leader Raila Odinga got 121,590 votes during the 2013 general elections.
