President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday morning travelled to Maputo, Mozambique, for a State visit aimed at fostering trade, boost bilateral relations and especially on the blue economy.
The Plane carrying the President and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta departed the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after 8:00 am.
The key issue in the agenda is blue economy which Kenyatta and his host President Filipe Nyusi will discuss this matter at length.
"Mozambique has a very developed blue economy," PSCU said, adding that Kenya will in November this year host a High-Level Conference on Sustainable Blue Economy.
The blue economy is the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods and jobs while preserving the health of marine and coastal ecosystem.
State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu highlighted Mozambique's wealth in terms of natural gas, and offshore wealth, and said it had much to share with Kenya.
“Discussions would focus on how to extract resources in a sustainably manner as part of empowering both our economies,” Esipisu said.
On the bilateral front, the Kenyatta's visit will seek to deepen an already existing cordial and friendly relations between Kenya and Mozambique as well as enhancing people to people interactions.
At the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Deputy President William Ruto and Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe led other senior government officials in seeing off the president.
