President Uhuru Kenyatta is in Khartoum, Sudan, for a two-day official visit.
During his visit, President Kenyatta and his host, President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, will discuss bilateral trade and security issues.
Also on the agenda for the two President’s meeting is the leadership of the African Union for which Kenya has offered the candidature of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed as Chairperson of the AU Commission.
President Kenyatta will seek the Sudan’s vote as well it’s support in lobbying more countries.
President Bashir received the Kenyan President at the Khartoum International Airport.
At the airport, President Kenyatta inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Sudanese Armed Forces.
The two Presidents will later hold bilateral talks at the Presidential Palace where a State Banquet will later be hosted in honour of President Kenyatta.
Kenya and Sudan have in the recent years been working on ways to diversify bilateral trade.
The trade volume between the two countries stood at around Sh10 billion in 2015.
The two nations have enjoyed close relations on regional, continental and international levels.
President Kenyatta is also expected to meet the Kenyan diaspora in Sudan.
The plane carrying President Kenyatta and his entourage departed Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly after 2.00 p.m.
