President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on governors to ensure that gains made in devolution are not lost to corruption.
The president further called on the governors to work hand in hand with the national government, and put aside their party partisans.
The president, who was addressing governors at the annual governors’ conference in Kwale, added that he was ready to work with all governors, regardless of their party affiliation.
It is now your responsibility to deliver. I know how tough it is, and at the end of the day, I believe in you because I believed in the judgment of the Kenyan voter.
“I wish you all the best in the next five years. I consider this meeting to be timely, having walked the devolution journey for the last five years. This meeting should give us the opportunity to reflect on what has worked well, what has not worked and then to come up with a strategy for the next five years,”
He highlighted the successes that devolution has gained over the years, and rubberstamped that to this level, devolution has worked perfectly well.
“Every county is now a fully-fledged Centre of economic development. No one has been left behind on the road of development,”
His remarks come at a time when counties allied to NASA passed a Bill to constitute peoples’ assembly, which will push for electoral and constitutional reforms.
