Speaking at Safari Park Hotel during the annual prayer breakfast, the president said Kenya had fought hard for the constitution and he will not water down the gains thereof.

He denied ever agreeing to nominate a team to hold talks with Cord over the IEBC stalemate and alluded to God not having time for IEBC issues.

“He (God) has already done His part! He did His part when we got the new constitution, why are we still on this matter? … Mungu ako na kazi mingi ya kufanya, si mambo ya IEBC (God has many things to do, not those of IEBC),” Uhuru said.

The president said that just like religions have reference books, Kenya's reference book is the constitution that he swore to uphold and protect.

Earlier, the deputy president William Ruto had dismissed Cord's 5-man team formed for the negotiations, terming it a "funny development".

During the prayer, other speakers called for national unity despite the prevailing political differences.

The fourth prayer breakfast under Jubilee recorded a low turnout of parliamentarians, especially from the opposition. Conspicuously missing were Cord principals Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka.
