President Uhuru Kenyatta has called for enhanced partnerships between the church and government for accelerated social-economic development.
President Kenyatta said the government recognized and appreciated the role played by religious organizations in boosting its efforts to uplift communities, empower citizens and promote development.
“Let me appreciate the church for the commendable job it is doing to complement the government efforts in reaching out to the less fortunate members of the society,” the Head of State said.
He emphasized the need for Kenyans to play their individual and collective roles effectively for the country to realise its development targets.
Speaking on Sunday at the dedication service for the new Faith Evangelistic Ministries (FEM) Family Church in Karen, Nairobi, President Kenyatta assured the church that the government was ready to partner with it in all programs that impacted positively in the lives of Kenyans.
He specifically appreciated FEM for constructing the 4,000-seater Sanctuary, adding that he would partner with them in phase two of the project that entails development of a seven-storey parking building for over 700 vehicles.
“You have a reason to smile for this magnificent prayer house constructed with contributions from faithful and friends without a single fundraiser. With dedication, God makes everything possible,” President Kenyatta said.
He told the congregation that included senior government officials, Amb Yahel Vilan of Israel and delegations from 16 countries that the government was grateful for the work of religious organisations across the country.
The President singled out the various humanitarian missions undertaken by FEM for the needy including special feeding centers for orphaned and destitute children in Kilifi County.
“In preaching practical gospel, FEM and its founder Rev Teresa Wanjiru are taking care of over 400 destitute children in Kikambala, Kilifi County, who would otherwise have had no place to call home. That is commendable,” the President said.
Rev Wanjiru said the sanctuary cost over Ksh 1 billion which would not have been possible to raise without the support of partners.
The FEM founder appreciated the German evangelist, who was the service celebrant, for mentoring her and assured the congregation that she would in turn mentor many more.
Rev Wanjiru also appreciated the Israel Government for its support to the church’s medical programs, especially medical camps across the country.
