President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto on Monday visited the Western region, with a bag of goodies.
With less than a week to go to the polls, both camps are racing against time to rally their troops to ensure victory in the much anticipated polls.
Speaking in Kakamega on Monday, Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto once again pledged to revive the ailing Mumias Sugar Company.
addressing their supporters at the Nabongo grounds in Mumias Town, the two leaders said they had already demonstrated desire to revive industries by extending Sh3.2 billion to the sugar miller to make it remain afloat.
“The Sh500 million we have brought today will be used to directly pay debts owed to farmers,” said Mr Ruto as reported by the Daily Nation.
The duo said their efforts of an additional Sh500 million that was handed to the factory, and would help in paying farmers.
The company has had financial upheavals in the recent past, characterized with heavy debts and lack of sugar for its operations due to lack of funds to pay farmers.
Importation of cheap sugar into the market has also affected its operations in a big way, with the government coming to its rescue time and again.
However, the help has not been enough, with the company still on its knees and many of its operations crippled.
