President Uhuru Kenyatta has intervened to help Academy of Korogocho, a talent club based in Korogocho.
The president directed the National Youth Service to move from the ground, giving the young talents a much-needed relief.
“The young man I was sitting next to told me their pitch in Korogocho was taken away by the NYS and now we’ve agreed today and madam CS is there, she will rectify the situation. NYS will relocate to a new place,” said the president.
The team has been using the ground since it was formed in 2013, and was told to vacate the grounds in 2015 to pave way for NYS to set up offices.
However, all these will now change as the President directed Cabinet Secretary for Gender and Youth Margaret Kobia to ensure NYS vacate the pitch.
The president was speaking on Tuesday when the World Cup Trophy was presented to him by Coca-Cola at statehouse.
"Following the Presidents’ directive on Monday the 26th, I was in Korogocho this morning to oversee the rehabilitation of Korogocho playground, work which will be undertaken by the National Youth Service,” tweeted Kobia on Thursday.
“The Korogocho playground, which was in use during the period NYS Youth Empowerment Programme was running, will now be fully rehabilitated and handed over to the community to whom it belongs.”
