President Uhuru Kenyatta, flanked by his Deputy William Ruto, has addressed the nation, hours after IEBC Commissioner, Dr Roselyn Akombe resigned from the electoral agency.

Uhuru called on all Kenyans to pray for the country, adding that Kenya now requires prayers from every citizen.

He asked Kenyans to observe a national prayer day, Sunday October 22, ahead of the October 26, polls date, for the presidency.

After consultations with religious leaders, Uhuru said he had resulted to ensure the country has a weekend of prayer.

"I call on all Kenyans to observe a National Prayer Day this Sunday. Let us pray for our leaders, all our leaders, across the political divide that they may be granted wisdom, humility and that they may love peace and justice," he said.

Uhuru also asked Kenyans to pray for each other.

"If your brother or sister asks you forgiveness, do not withhold it."
