The Mombasa–Nairobi SGR is the largest infrastructure project undertaken in the country’s history.

CRBC manager for External Relations and Cooperation Steven Zhao said the project’s civil works are currently 80 per cent complete.

“It will be a great honour to host the President. Our role is not just to build key infrastructure link but as a catalyst, a provider of solutions that will improve the socio-economic standards of communities not just on the SGR corridor, but the country and region at large,” he said.

Construction of the 609 km-long line started in October 2013, and is expected to be completed by December next year.

The railway line is expected to reduce passenger travel time from Mombasa to Nairobi to about four hours while freight trains are estimated to complete the journey in less than eight hours.
