President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Coast residents to unite and embrace peace.

President Kenyatta said the region cannot realise its full development potential if there is no peace and people are divide along tribal, religious and political lines.

“We will be able to achieve a lot if we respect each other, we are united and live together harmoniously,” President Kenyatta said.

The President spoke Sunday when he joined other Christians for a Sunday mass at the Holy Ghost Catholic Cathedral in Mombasa.

The Head of State reassured of his personal commitment to unite the country and safeguard peace.

Archbishop Martin Kivuva of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa presided over the mass and delivered the sermon.

The Archbishop said Christians in Mombasa are working with Kenyans of other religions in peace building and promotion of unity.

The president’s tour in the coast region was meant to inspect development projects set up by the national government as well as preaching national unity.

The President kicked off his visit to the Coast region by opening two key markets that will improve the working environment for small traders in Mombasa.

He also opened the ASK International Show and the 30 billion shillings Phase one of the Second Container Terminal.

Particular focus was given to roads, hospital equipment, title deeds, and electricity connectivity.

State house spokesman Manoah Esipisu says the president now resumes to Nairobi where he is expected to open the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF).

2000 guest are expected in the forum that will be hosted at United Nations complex in Gigiri kicking off on Tuesday through to Friday.

The forum will seek to encourage investment in the agricultural sector, to end hunger, improve nutrition, and drive economic opportunities for Africa and its people.
