President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans to uphold peace and unity ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

“We need to reject politics of tribe and division. Let us unite and move forward together to improve the country’s economy," he noted.

Speaking on Tuesday in Kisumu, the Head of State challenged the youth not to engage in chaos and violence during and after the August polls, reiterating the need for peace during the electioneering period.

“Do not allow yourselves to be used by politicians who will dump you once they have achieved their political goals,” he said.

“It does not matter whether you are a Kamba, a Luo, Kikuyu or a member of any other tribe. What is important is that we are all Kenyans,” he added.

The President used the occasion to drum up support for is re-election, pledging to return to Kisumu for a developmental tour.

He was accompanied by Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma and Karachuonyo MP James Rege.
