President Uhuru Kenyatta has promised to uphold peace ahead of, during and after the coming polls slated for August.
Speaking at the University if Nairobi where he attended the launch of 2017 National Lenten Campaign held at the institution's graduation square, the President vowed to use his powers to ensure that the coming elections are peaceful.
''As the President and a citizen of this great nation,i promise to do my part to ensure that peace prevails in the nation,especially at a time when elections are approaching,'' said President Kenyatta, who also demanded the same from Kenyans.
The head of state further congratulated Kenyans for maintaining peace at this time when the nation is already experiencing political high temperatures saying that despite being surrounded by some leaders who have inciting and hate speech mongering characteristics, they have not given in to the pressure.
''I want to commend Kenyans because despite being incited by some leaders,they have maintained peace and oneness," said Kenyatta.
The event was also attended by the opposition represented by nominated Senator Agnes Zani.
The campaign which operates under the theme Peaceful and Credible election is courtesy of Catholic bishops.
