President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he is ready to dialogue with the opposition led by Raila Odinga, but only on matters of economics.
This was clear on Tuesday during the 54th Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani.
Kenyatta on Saturday sent the same message to Odinga, saying he was ready to sit down and forge a way forward.
However, his message has been to find a way to ensure there is economic stability and not political talks.
“As I have stated before, as President of all Kenyans, I am willing and commit to engaging all Kenyans, and all Kenyan leaders, including my worthy competitors, irrespective of their religious or ethnic affiliation, in fashioning this paradigm shift,” President Kenyatta said.
He further urged Kenyans not to engage in politics for the sake of it, but instead focus on building an economy he believes has a lot of potentials.
“I have seen the future, and it is at hand. The pursuit of politics for politics’ sake is the past; the pursuit of political leadership for economic liberation is the future. And it up to us, as Kenyans, to deliver it,” said President Kenyatta.
