President Uhuru Kenyatta has for the first time talked on secession talks that have dominated the air for a few weeks now.
The president, who was sworn in two weeks ago, has warned those fronting the idea, saying anyone found threatening the peace and stability of the country will face the full force of the law.
Speaking on Thursday in Kwale when he opened the governors’ conference, Kenyatta warned the opposition that his administration will not sit back and watch.
“We will not entertain any language, any action, that threatens our territorial integrity,” Mr. Kenyatta said at Diani Reef Hotel in Kwale County.
We can have dialogue, either individually or collectively, but one thing is clear; there is a line, and if you cross it, the law will deal with you,” he added.
This comes as the NASA coalition threatened to swear in Raila Odinga as the peoples’ president, before shelving their plans.
The opposition has vowed not to recognize President Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidency, and want to push for electoral and constitutional reforms.
Different counties leaning towards the opposition have passed Bills to establish the peoples’ assembly, which will push for the said reforms.
