President Uhuru Kenyatta has today officially flagged off tracks that will ferry books to both primary and secondary schools.
The event, which took place in Karen, Nairobi, saw the president, flanked by Education CS Fred Matiang’I laud the steps the ministry had taken to improve education standards.
“This is an exercise that will ensure a 1:1 textbook ratio. This initiative will cost the government Sh7.5 billion will also save Sh13 billion,”
The cost of textbooks has reduced, and hence this should benefit parents and guardians alike. Every student in the group will have all the required textbooks.
The president urged book suppliers to give private and church-based organizations books at the same rate that they gave to the government, saying it will go a long way in promoting education in all levels.
“The publishers who are here, let us agree, there is no reason you cannot give private schools and faith-based schools the same price that the government has accessed,” he added.
The president also highlighted the investment the government had put in place in different public schools, to ensure every child access equal learning opportunities.
“Our values dictate that all resources dedicated to education should be accounted for. Our teachers too should dedicate themselves to delivering according, school learning environment must be learner-friendly baring the goal that we must have a high retention in schools,” he added.
