President Uhuru Kenyatta in his last State of the nation address before the august 8th polls promised his commitment to a free and fair general election.
The president was highlighting several transitions that had happened in the last four years where he congratulated the Isaack Hasan led IEBC.
“Another significant transition has taken place with the renewal of our electoral body, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. This transition demonstrated our ability to navigate a complex political challenge and averted a constitutional crisis,” Said the President.
In addition the president exuded confidence that the new Chebukati- led IEBC will deliver a credible general election. He urged all Kenyans to do the same and give the team ample space to run as an independent institution.
“I have full confidence that this team is capable of delivering a credible election. I call upon all Kenyans to provide space for the IEBC to operate as an independent body, as it undertakes its important national duties,” the president added.
He also said that his administration has supported and protected independent bodies.
“During this time my administration has supported the effective functioning of independent bodies. It is important that we accept and protect the role of independent offices, and that we work within the bounds of our constitutional order,” he added.
