President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia has called on Al-Shabaab militant group to stop their frequent brutal attacks on Kenyans and their fellow Somalis.
In a speech that marked Somalia’s 56th anniversary since independence, the president appealed to the Islamist insurgent group to consider and think of the lives they disrupt in their terror activities.
“Abandon these suicidal missions, stop killing the innocent people, stop terrorizing parents and children, avoid orphaning Kenya and Somali children. Cross over and come to the government’s side so that we order to live our normal lives, and their rights of our citizens will be protected," stated Sheikh.
The president, however, said the Somali army in collaboration with African Union troops have achieved tangible success against the Al-Shabaab, although the terror group continues to stage attacks in Kenyan border counties and various military bases in Mogadishu.
Sheikh's message comes at a time when Dadaab refugees are finalising on personal preparations amid plans to repatriate them back to their native homes.
Al-Shabaab insurgents have been terrorising Kenyans as a revenge for the presence of KDF troops in the war-torn country.
