IAAF boss Mr. Sebastian Coe has given a greenlight that the facilities are in good condition, and that the country is ready to host the games.

More than 800 track and field athletes from 130 countries are ready to light up the newly refurbished 60,000-seater stadium for the next five days.

“It is a historic occasion for Kenya. Kenyan athletes have made a huge impact on global athletics from the 1960s with Amos Biwott and Kip Keino all the way to my generation. My history is your history and your history is my history,” said Coe.

He further paid tribute to the Kenyan athletes, saying it was an honour to finally have the games in this legendary country.

“It is a historic occasion for Kenya and we are delighted to be here to witness the largest track and field competition on the continent. Holding World Championships here signifies the continued commitment Kenya has for global athletics,” he added.

During the opening ceremony, more than 300 students picked from different schools will carry national flags, with entertainment from Sarakasi Dancers and other traditional dance troupes that will showcase Kenyan culture.
