Kiambu women Representative Ann Nyokabi has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, to protect the welfare and interests of women as guaranteed for in the constitution.
The women representative said that some leaders are plotting to undermine the interests of women especially on the gender representation rule.
Speaking in Lari town on Sunday, Nyokabi said the constitution is clear on gender representation and that it must be implemented without alterations.
“We as women leaders must stand firm and fight for what belongs to us. We are not going to allow scrapping of women seats or any alteration of the constitution,” said Nyokabi.
The Kiambu women rep further urged women to be active and debate on issues that affect them.
She said that keeping quite has given their male counterparts room to undermine them.
Nyokabi said that by speaking their minds out, they will be able to gain support on matters leadership and representation.
Meanwhile, the women rep wants Governor William Kabogo to end the persistent wrangles he has with a section of leaders.
Nyokabi said that wrangles will derail development and deny residents access to service delivery.
