President Uhuru Kenyatta has told Kiambu County residents to conserve the environment and join hands with government efforts in planting trees.
Speaking during the opening of Mukuyu PCEA Church in Murera ward on Sunday, Kenyatta said that his government aims to increase the tree cover to at least 10 percent, as envisioned in Vision 2030.
He added that the programme is meant to serve as the foundation of building community capacities for environmental conservation in the country.
“Let’s join together and conserve our environment because this is where we get our food and water bearing in mind it is a rainy season,” Kenyatta said.
The president further condemned the massive burning of charcoal in Kalimoni and Gatuanyaga village.
Kenyatta commended Governor Kabogo for his ‘good’ administration in the county, saying the economy of Kiambu is among the fastest growing in the country.
“My friend Kabogo’s administration has lured several investors in the county,” the president added, citing the previous innovation by Royal Philips who launched a Community Life Centre in the county and the upcoming Ananas shopping mall in Makongeni area.
