The IAAF U18 Championship opening ceremony at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on Wednesday was presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta as Kenya was chosen as the hosts for the tenth edition of the championship games                       

The ceremony which lasted 30 minutes started at 4:30pm with the playing of the national anthem and music by the East Africa Legislative Assembly by the state band.

Following this was a march comprised of hundreds of school students from the entrance of the stadium into the arena while showcasing the flags of the various countries participating in the games.

First Lady Margeret Kenyatta graced the show while 800m world record holder David Rudisha, World Javelin Champion Julius Yego and former cross country champion Douglas Wakiihuri also attended the event.

Those in attendance could be seen waving mini Kenyan Flags during the Presidents’ speech who declared the five day championship free for all.

"I declare that the event will be free for all, let Kenyans come and watch these global championships as it unfolds in our beloved country," Uhuru said as reported by The Standard.
