[Photo|Parliament of Kenya]President Uhuru Kenyatta has officially inaugurated the 12th Parliament, Tuesday September 12.Addressing his debut joint-sitting of the both Houses, National and Senate Assemblies, the president who was accompanied by his Deputy William Ruto, took the opportunity to congratulate the Members on their election to their respective Houses. He observed that the electorate had in the last election elected a bigger number of women leaders and applauded the constituents of Kajiado County for electing a member living with disability Janet Teeiya, as their Woman Representative.He urged the new lawmakers to respect and protect the Constitution, and deliver on their promises to the electorate. Upon his arrival in Parliament, the President was received by House Speakers Justin Muturi (National Assembly) and Kenneth Lusaka (Senate), National Assembly Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and other members of parliamentary leadership.Opposition members skipped the event, on grounds that Uhuru contravened the Constitution by inaugurating the 12th Parliament since he is not the newly elected president.
