Over 14,000 displaced people in Kisii who used to live in different parts of Rift Valley before the 2007/2008 post-election violence out are still waiting for the Ksh 200,000 compensation promised by the government.

President Uhuru Kenyatta while in Gusii region on Wednesday promised that the IDPs will be compensated by next month. He was accompanied by his deputy William Ruto.

The IDPs chairman Alfred Akama, said they have tried to follow up on their compensation to no avail.

“We have been patient enough. We are now in another electioneering period and the song remains the same,” said Akama.

The group was registered by the National Consultative Coordination Committee under the Devolution ministry.

On the 24th of September 2016 the IDPs in Kisii attended a meeting in Nakuru organized by committee and those still living in camps were promised to be resettled and integrated with Sh200, 000 but the promise is yet to be fulfilled.
