Nairobi County workers have a reason to smile after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the government would release their salaries before Christmas.
The president's intervention in the wake of an outcry by the Nairobi County government over the delay by Treasury to release funds in time.
As he made the announcement, he congratulated the county government of Nairobi for having a centralised payment system that has significantly bolstered revenue collection.
''Today I can proudly say that for the first time, even without a single cent from the national government, Nairobi will pay salaries from internal revenue collected.'' He said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta chastised the previous Kidero government for delaying workers salaries, saying things would be different under the Sonko administration.
Governor Sonko on his part criticised the Treasury for delaying the release of the funds to the county even when the county followed the required procedure.
