President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto on Wednesday took their campaigns to Raila Odinga’s backyard in search of votes while calling for peaceful elections.The President and his deputy visited Homa Bay and Kisumu counties where they opened various projects which had been on construction. In Mbita, the President opened a Sh 1.5 billion which will ease transportation in the region. The President told the people that his campaigns are development based with an interest in national development. “It is everyone’s right to seek votes from you,” President Kenyatta told a crowd, “But we are campaigning on the basis of national development.”The two counties are perceived as opposition strongholds with voter turnout of over 86 per cent. The counties voted overwhelmingly for the opposition leader Mr Odinga in 2013.However, the Jubilee duo urged the residents to vote for them saying that everyone had benefited from its leadership.The President promised the residents that he will not discriminate anyone who does not vote for him saying its their democratic right to vote for anyone they deem suitable.“We will not discriminate against anyone, even if you did not vote for us,” said President Kenyatta.“That will be your choice. But we will not stop developing the country," added the President.
