President Uhuru Kenyatta will be attending the G7 summit in Taormina, Italy, today, Friday.

Kenya has been invited to the 43rd Group of Seven (G7) meeting alongside other three African states; Nigeria, Ethiopia and Tunisia, in Taormina, Sicily.

Italy currently holds the rotating G7 Presidency and the theme of this year’s summit is ‘Building the Foundations of Renewed Trust’.

G7 leaders are US President Donald Trump, Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe and UK Prime Minister Theresa May.

During the conference, Uhuru is expected to give a speech, to market his country, at the global level.

“The president has been invited to speak specifically on the timeliness and challenges brought about by innovation as a factor of innovation growth and development on the African continent,” State House Spokesperson, Manoah Esipisu said.

“This is a massive recognition of the strides that Kenya is making and has made in the technology area for which we are now a recognised leader,” Esipisu added.

The two-day meeting ends May 27, 2017.
