President Uhuru Kenyatta has been nominated for the annual African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards 2017.
Uhuru was nominated in the political leadership category alongside Liberia's Sirleaf Johnson and former Madagascar President Marc Ravalomanana.
On the list of nominees for various positions are John Magufuli of Tanzania, Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria.
Other shortlisted leaders are 12 business leaders and this year's edition also includes; African of the Year 2017; African Female Leader of the Year 2017 and Young Person of the Year 2017.
Among those nominated in the African of the Year section are Kagame and Magufuli. Manu Chandaria of Comcraft Group is among those nominated in the philanthropy and charitable contributions to society category.
Two Kenyans were also highlighted in the Young People Category and they include; Ory Okolloh who is the Director of Investments at Omidyar Network and Joel Macharia who is the CEO and founder of financial services firm Abacus.
According to the organizers, the selection of the nominees was done based on the activities and actions that contributed to job and wealth creation and hence promoting the Africa's image abroad and enhancing democracy. The winners will be announced in early January.
