President Uhuru Kenyatta has been nominated for the African Leadership Magazine (ALM) Persons of the Year Awards 2017.

President Kenyatta is among six African Heads of States and 12 business leaders who have been nominated for various categories of the annual continental accolade, CNBC Africa reports.

Other heads of state who have been nominated in various categories include John Magufuli (Tanzania), Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Muhammadu Buhari (Nigeria) and outgoing Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (Liberia).

President Kenyatta has been nominated in the political leadership category alongside Sirleaf and ex-Madagascar President Marc Ravalomanana.

This year’s edition which is the 6th in the series features 7 categories, including, African of the Year 2017; African Female Leader of the Year 2017 and Young Person of the Year 2017.

Others are: ALM Person of the Year-Educational development 2017; ALM Person of the Year- Employment Generation 2017; ALM Person of the Year-Political Leadership 2017 and ALM Person of the Year- Philanthropy 2017.

Presidents Kagame and Magufuli are among those nominated in the African of the Year category. Comcraft Group’s Chairman Manu Chandaria is among those nominated in the philanthropy and charitable contributions to society category.

Two Kenyans are among the six who have been shortlisted in the Young People category. They include Ory Okolloh, the Director of Investments at Omidyar Network and Joel Macharia, the CEO and founder of financial services firm Abacus.

The company said that the selection committee was keen interest in Africans, whose activities, policies and actions have contributed to creating jobs and spreading wealth, promoting democratic values and/or promoting Africa’s image abroad.

The award winners will be announced on 5th January, 2018 and will be feted in 24th February.
