President Uhuru Kenyatta has praised the Kenyan Catholic church for playing a key role in promoting education.
He lauded the church’s role in inculcating moral values to Kenyans. Uhuru however urged church leaders to be in the forefront in promoting and supporting peace during political campaigns and after the elections.In a speech delivered on his behalf by Education Cabinet secretary, Dr Fred Matiangi during the opening of a new parish, St Josephs Amasago, in Kisii diocese Uhuru said that the government and the church will continue partnering in the education sector. The deputy President William Ruto also challenged religious leaders to unite in preaching peace ahead of the August 8 General Election.While speaking at the inauguration of African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) Archbishop Julius Njoroge Gitau yesterday,Ruto emphasized on the need for peace and unity for the attainment of a credible election.He said the clergy should play a critical role in uniting the country ahead of the highly charged poll.“As neutral players in the process, you should play for both the Jubilee and the Opposition leaders as we prepare to face electorates in the coming election,” said Ruto during the event at Kasarani Gymnasium.
