Addressing a crowd of Kenyans through the sunroof of his car, the commander-in-chief warned that Kenya will continue grappling with the tragedy of floods unless conscious measures are taken to protect the environment.

He made a connection between the floods that continue to plague the country with environmental degradation.

''The problem of floods. The problem of drought will continue to plague us unless we take steps to protect and safeguard our environment. We have to reject those littering our streets with garbage that are blocking drainage systems,'' President Uhuru Kenyatta said.

His words come in the context of raging floods triggered by the heavy rains that have been pounding different parts of the country, causing the destruction of property and the loss of life.

The president also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the Solai Dam tragedy.
