President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday admitted that the country is divided and there was need to work together more as a country.
Speaking to journalists after voting at Mutomo Primary School in Gatundu South, Kenyata said he intends to reach out to Raila Odinga in order to heal the nation, which is divided after the polls.
Majority of Kenyans stayed away from the polls on Thursday, with voting in NASA strongholds called off due to chaos witnessed.
“As a responsible leader, you must reach out, and that is my intention,” Mr Kenyatta said as quoted by the Nation.
The boycott of the polls by the NASA faithfuls came after Raila Odinga withdrew from the race, urging his supporters not to turn out for voting.
The two leaders have been engaged in a tight political battle, with each holding to their ground on issues that were seen key to the holding of a repeat poll.
The polls were occasioned by the nullification of the August 8 polls by the Supreme Court, after the court found illegalities and irregularities in the polls.
