President Uhuru Kenyatta has pledged to continue working in ensuring there is harmony between communities in the country.
Speaking during the Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Moi Kasarani Stadium, Kenyatta said harmony is the only thing that would deepen the unity in the country and foster national cohesion.
“My friends, our Founding Fathers taught us one more thing: that “…The person who plants is not always the one who harvests”. They toiled to plant this nation, though they knew that it was their children who would harvest the fruit of their labour,” he said.
“If my generation has reaped that harvest, we have the responsibility of protecting our inheritance, and renewing it periodically, so that our children, and our children’s children, can harvest the fruit of our labor,” he added.
Kenyatta further urged Kenyans to remain united and work towards achieving a more cohesive Kenya, one which each and every one will be proud of.
He led hundreds of Kenyans who turned up for the celebrations in marking this important day when Kenya gained its independence.
