President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged youths across the country to come forward and apply for development funds.
Speaking at PCEA Makuyu church in Juja on Saturday, Kenyatta said that his government has taken great initiatives to empower youths, women and people living with disability.
He said that empowering such groups is key to realisation of socio-economic development.
The president asked youths to shun criminal activities and other social evils and instead apply for development funds.
“We want to urge young people across the country to apply for development funds, they are what can help you grow, with small businesses,” said the President.
Kenyatta indicated that his government has put in place various mechanisms meant to improve the well-being of youths.
He observed that though unemployment remains a key challenge, his government is keen to ensure young people are engaged in development.
Kenyatta further asked the youths to apply for government tenders and work with the government to offer services.
He said that access to government tenders has been made easier through use of technology and that youths should take the initiative and apply for tenders.
“We also want our youths to apply for tenders and do business with us, so be encouraged and do not be cowed by anyone,” he said.
The President was hosted by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, Senator Kimani Wamatangi and various leaders from across the county.
